Vantaa will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2024. The anniversary was featured in advance in the last issue of the Residents' Magazine in 2023.

Vantaa will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2024 with the theme Home in Vantaa.

Celebrating growth. From a small village to a big city. To an adult doing well. Celebrating the past, the present and the future. Vantaa citizens and the spirit of Vantaa. The fact that we are ahead of others in many things, and we will lead the way in, for example, internationalism.

We celebrate the fact that we can all be at home in Vantaa. And if home is not (yet) in Vantaa, it is still a great place to be.

Vantaa is home to murals, sculptures, smoke saunas, airplanes, a spa, a science centre, sweets, oatmeal breads, silicon wafers, a river, streams, rapids, outdoor trails, railways, peace talks and future learners.

From your doorstep, you can see nature, ski trails, the national park, the airport and, through our residents, the world. Vantaa is home to you and me. Our feelings, our memories, our plans, our laughter, our tears, our dancing, our work, our rest, our everyday life, our celebrations. A metropolis of small houses. No one is too small or too big to be a Vantaa citizen.

It’s good to be in your fifties because you have invested in the future. The roots are already grown, not to mention the wings! Vantaa dares to be brave and let the wings carry the day. Vantaa is an attitude. The future already lives here. Read more at vantaa.fi/celebration.

At Home in Vantaa celebrations

We want to make the 50th anniversary year of the City of Vantaa a celebration shared by all Vantaa residents. Festive activities will be visible around Vantaa throughout the year.

The jubilee year will begin on New Year’s Eve on 31 December at 18:00 in front of the Vantaa City Hall and at Tikkurilantori Square. The Vantaa City Hall will be illuminated by a large video installation that tells the history of the city. Join us for music, dance and community spirit!

In May, you can enjoy events such as the traditional Vantaa Day concert. In August, the city will welcome the National Local Heritage Conference under the title At Home in Vantaa.

The National Local Heritage Conference will be held in Vantaa from 30 August 2024 to 1 September 2024. The conference will highlight modern urban life, inclusion and multiculturalism in addition to cultural heritage. Over that weekend, people will have the opportunity to participate in many different excursions, guided tours and lectures.

In connection with the celebrations, the anniversary exhibition of the City Museum will be opened and a book on the 50-year history of the City of Vantaa will be published.

BRQ Vantaa Festival and Helsinga Medieval Day will also be held in August. Suomen Latu’s nationwide Nuku yö ulkona (“Sleep a night outdoors”) forest hotel concept will be implemented in Kuusijärvi.

You can peruse all the jubilee events in the Vantaa Event Calendar, which will be added to throughout the year. The calendar can be found at tapahtumat.vantaa.fi.

Organise your own event

City residents can also organise their own events throughout the year. You can

apply for a grant from the city for organising an event. The grants are awarded to communities and groups. See application instructions at vantaa.fi/avustukset
