Vantaa’s Silver Screens

Article

Vantaa is a vibrant cinema city that has also served as a filming location for numerous movies.

In the Valkokankaiden Vantaa brochure, you can find information about all the film series.
The printed brochure is available in theatres, libraries, Vantaa Info points, and cultural centres and venues.

Movies have been filmed in Vantaa as far back as 1915, when the silent film Rikosten runtelema (lit. “Ravaged by Crime”), which has since been lost, was filmed in Tikkurila.

Many of the movies filmed in Vantaa can be looked up on the Finna.fi service. Well-known movies include Tanssi yli hautojen (Dancing on Graves, 1950), Evakko (lit. “Evacuee”, 1956) and Ponterosa (2001), whose filming locations included Linna Manor and Backas Manor. The upstairs of the Backas barn has also played the location for the dances in Niskavuori.

The most well-known filming location is likely the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, which can be seen in the background of Mielensäpahoittaja (The Grump, 2014), for example. Kartanonkoski can be identified as the scenery for the colorful Ricky Rapper movies. Scenes were filmed in Korso for Korso (2014) and in Tammisto for the sequel to Yösyöttö (Man and Baby), Tarhapäivä (Man and a Junior, 2019). The second most popular filming location in Vantaa is the Helsinge Vicarage.
