Children’s and parent’s experiences of early childhood education being mapped out with a client survey
The joint client survey for the Helsinki Metropolitan Area will be sent out in September to the parents and guardians of approximately 60,000 children. The municipalities will use the survey responses to help develop early childhood education and pre-primary education.
The cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen will be carrying out a joint client survey on early childhood education and pre-primary education in September. The purpose of the survey is to collect data on the experiences of children, parents and guardians regarding starting early childhood education and pre-primary education, children’s inclusion and the flow of information between homes and early childhood education. The survey includes questions not only for parents and guardians, but also for children.
The views of parents, guardians and children are an important part of the assessment and development of early childhood education. The collected data will be used for developing the daycare centre activities and for planning and decision-making regarding early childhood education in the cities.
Parents and guardians will receive a link to the survey from their child’s daycare centre or family daycare caregiver. The survey can be taken in Finnish, Swedish, English, Estonian, Russian, Albanian, Arabic or Somali.
The survey is aimed at families whose children are attending municipal or private early childhood education or pre-primary education.
The survey is open for responses from 7 to 18 September 2026. The results will be published in January 2027.
The cities in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area have been conducting joint client surveys since 2008. The results of the surveys have been used to develop early childhood education services throughout the collaboration.
