The collection of children's literature at Helmet public libraries is enriched by new contemporary titles gifted from Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Portugal and Uruguay.

Helmet public libraries in Vantaa and the Helmet Multilingual Library received On September 22nd, 2022, more than 60 children's and youth literature titles that were published recently. This gift is part of the program for the enrichment of the collection of children's books in Portuguese and Spanish in public libraries, a initiative led by Kulttuurikeskus Ninho in close collaboration with the Iberoamerican Embassies in Finland.

This year, our thanks go out to the Embassies of Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Portugal and Uruguay; to Instituto Camões and Direção-Geral do Livro, Arquivos e Bibliotecas in Portugal; to the renowned Mexican authors Juan Palomino and Ana Paula Ojeda, the invited artists for Kolibrí Festivaali 2022; and to the distinguished Peruvian writer, Micaela Chirif.

Kulttuurikeskus Ninho ry is a Finnish multicultural organization led by immigrants, that strives to enrich the variety and increase diversity in the collection of children's books in Spanish and Portuguese available in the Helmet libraries. Bestowing books to libraries helps promote reading among plurilingual children, supports educational institutions and provides resources to aid the municipal plan for teaching heritage languages.

This initiative started in 2016 and remains active. To this day, over 300 titles have been gifted through collaboration with the aforementioned Embassies, as well as those of Argentina and Chile. Ninho makes the selection of children's literature to be acquired and works together with the Ibero-American embassies and other institutions to secure funding. Writers and illustrators who have been invited to  Kolibrí Festivaali are also encouraged to donate samples of their work, along with the publishing houses they work with.

The books can be borrowed in the Helmet libraries.
