During the intensified supervision week of May 5–10, special attention will be paid to the safety of street works in the Helsinki metropolitan area.

According to the law, the arrangements of construction sites in streets, parks and other public areas must always be planned in a safe way, and the traffic in the area must be safely directed past the site.

Many of the deficiencies found in construction sites can result in dangerous situations. Examples of typical deficiencies that result in danger include directing pedestrians onto a roadway or insufficient fencing of the construction site.

Traffic signs communicating the exceptional arrangements may also be missing, or a permit application for starting the work may not have been submitted to the city.

The aim of the intensified supervision week is to intervene in these and other observed deficiencies more effectively.

The police can issue a fine if the construction site's arrangements endanger traffic safety or the notice of the construction site has not been submitted to the city as required by law.

The intensive supervision week is being carried out jointly by the cities of the Helsinki metropolitan area and the police departments of the area.
