Bilingualism policy enhanced Vantaa’s Swedish-language services in 2022

Release

Vantaa City Executive Board entered the bilingualism team's report for 2022 for information.

The goal of Vantaa’s bilingualism policy is to describe the state of our national languages in the municipality and to determine ways to execute the demands stipulated by the Language Act, as well as to monitor the national language strategy. One of the program's proposals for measures was to name a city-level bilingualism team, which annually reports to the city executive board on the progress of their work.

In 2022, the team assembled four times and implemented altogether 22 measures from the bilingualism policy, for instance, improving the city's Swedish-language signposts, increasing bilingual communication, and providing more services in Swedish. Cooperation with Svenska kommittén continued on exchange of information and arranging a joint information event.

The meeting’s itemized decision register is attached as an appendix. You will find the agenda and minutes of the meeting online at: www.vantaa.fi/paatoksenteko
