City Council approved the report on the Vantaa Light Rail project

Vantaa City Council assembled for an additional meeting on May 27. In the meeting, the city council approved, after voting, the mayor’s report on the economic situation of Vantaa and the Vantaa light rail project.

The report was approved after a vote (41 votes to 25), and protocol statements were submitted.

Developing Vantaa light rail will continue, and its building is based on the original cost estimate. The updated project plan and target cost for the developmental stage of Vantaa light rail will be completed in fall 2025, at which time, they will be handled by the city council.

The city council’s additional meeting was organized on the grounds of a letter submitted to the City of Vantaa Registry on May 20, which was signed by 23 city councilors, and requested the organization of an additional council meeting regarding the current economic situation of the City of Vantaa and the costs of the Vantaa light rail project.

According to the Local Government Act, the council must be assembled if at least one quarter of the city councilors request to do so regarding the matter they have specified. Such a matter must be prepared urgently.
