Construction works begin on Länsimäentie – traffic, pedestrian and cycling detours in April
The section of Länsimäentie between Rajakentäntie and Keihästie will be closed to traffic on Monday, April 20. The road will be closed during the day, and traffic will be diverted via Pallastunturintie. The arrangements also apply to bus routes that have previously used Länsimäentie. The section will remain closed and the detour in use until September 2027.
Changes to vehicle traffic
All vehicle traffic will be diverted via Pallastunturintie. Access to Kuulakuja will be arranged via Maalinauhantie. Properties on Kuulakuja will be informed separately via property managers.
Changes to public transport
Bus traffic will be rerouted via Pallastunturintie. Necessary improvements for bus traffic will be carried out on Pallastunturintie two weeks before the change, and test runs will take place one week in advance. HSL has provided more detailed information about bus stops and route changes.
Pedestrian and cycling routes
On the closed section of Länsimäentie, pedestrian and cycling routes will be directed via Kilpakuja during construction. A crossing point over Länsimäentie will be arranged at Kuulakuja. The exact location of the crossing may vary depending on the work phase. A safe route will be maintained throughout the construction period.
Work phases
The work will begin in April with preparatory activities. Initially, work areas will be marked, traffic arrangements modified, and existing structures removed. This will be followed by topsoil removal and ground reinforcement works. Due to ground conditions, reinforcement is required and will be carried out using preloading.
Pallastunturintie–Keihästie intersection
Traffic arrangements at the Pallastunturintie–Keihästie intersection may change during different work phases. The intersection will remain in use, and traffic will be directed by traffic controllers when necessary. More information will be provided as the work progresses.
In the first phase, preparatory work such as removal of surface structures will be carried out. Actual construction will begin in May, provided that the City of Vantaa’s Urban Environment Committee approves the agreements for the second implementation phase in April.
