Health protection control

Environmental Health Services are responsible for the quality control of drinking and bathing water as well as monitoring health matters related to housing and indoor air. Control activities are also carried out, for example, in schools and day care centres, nursing homes and public sports facilities.

Introduction

The tasks of health inspectors are divided into prevention and elimination. Prevention includes processing of building plans, reports and permits, as well as systematic monitoring. Elimination includes investigating suspected health hazards and addressing the identified hazards.

Annual fee and activities subject to control

Businesses are charged for the control activities. From 2022, day care centres, educational institutions, social welfare institutions, public saunas, swimming pools, hotels, hostels and sports facilities are charged an annual control fee. The annual €150 fee is based on the renewed Health Protection Act.
