Summer-job voucher instructions for the young

  • Fill out the required information on the form.
  • The summer-job voucher will be sent to the email address you gave, at the latest, within two weeks of the time you submitted the online application. Remember to also check the junk-email folder.
  • When you receive the summer-job voucher, write your name on the voucher.
  • Preconditions for summer job:
  1. With the summer-job voucher, you can apply for jobs at companies, organizations, foundations, and congregations.
  2. With the summer-job voucher you cannot apply for jobs at private households (for example, your own family or grandparents), the City of Vantaa, other municipalities, or the government.
  3. Your employer does not have to be registered in Vantaa, but your employer does, however, have to have a Finnish business ID.
  • When you get a summer job, remember to make a written contract of employment.
  • Give your summer-job voucher, income-tax card, and bank account number to the employer.
  • The employer will pay your salary and apply to the City of Vantaa for the summer-job voucher compensation.
  • Your minimum wage will be at minimum €500 / 60 hours of work, which means that your hourly wage will be €8.33 / hour.
  • Remember to ask your employer for a certificate of employment when your summer job ends.

Using the summer-job voucher

There are some issues you should keep in mind as regards the summer-job voucher. We recommend that both the young person and the employer familiarize themselves with the instructions below.

  • The young person's minimum wage shall be at minimum €500 / 60 hours of work (€8.33 / hour), unless the collective labor agreement of the field in question dictates a higher salary. Holiday compensation may not be included in the minimum gross income. If the young person works more, the salary must be higher, too.
  • The recommendation is that the minimum number of working hours amount to 18 hours / week. The summer-job period can also be divided into several parts during the period of validity of the summer-job voucher, if so agreed between the employee and the employer.
  • In addition to salary, the employer is also responsible for the employers' contributions and holiday compensation. NOTE! The age of the young person affects the employers' contributions. Here you can calculate the indirect wage costs  Palkka.fi - palkkalaskuri (“Wage calculator”).
  • You can utilize your summer-job voucher in your summer job from May 1 to August 31, 2025; in other words, you must have your summer job during this period.
  • If a young person works 14 days or 35 hours in a calendar month, they accrue annual leave in accordance with the Annual Holidays Act. The annual leave must be paid at the termination of employment, and holiday compensation may not be included in the base salary. In addition, the employer must pay the ordinary employers’ contributions. Furthermore, potential evening and holiday allowances must be paid to the young person according to the TES (“collective labor agreement”) in question.
  • In case of sickness absence, the employer must pay the young person sick pay according to the collective labor agreement of the field. In case there is no collective labor agreement, the sick pay must be paid in accordance with the Employment Contracts Act. The young person may not be asked to compensate for their sick leave after getting well.

Young person, are you interested in becoming an entrepreneur?

If you are willing to try out entrepreneurship, the City of Vantaa and SunUra arrange a summer entrepreneurship program that helps the young to set up their own business. More information on application and program: Vantaan kesäyrittäjyys -ohjelma - SunUra (“Vantaa’s summer entrepreneurship program - SunUra”)

For the employer

Thank you, employer, for supporting a Vantaa youth by offering a summer job and valuable work experience. You play an important role in the young person’s life by offering him or her a potentially first experience in working life. Remember to account for the issues below when hiring a young person.
  • The financial support paid to the employer amounts to €300 / summer employee. The aim of the summer-job voucher is to compensate for the employer’s hiring expenses.
  • There will be 1 summer-job voucher / young person / year.
  • The employer does not have to be registered in Vantaa, but the employer does, however, have to have a Finnish business ID.
  • The employer cannot be a private household, city/municipality, the government or a public real estate company.
  • The employer should use the collective labor agreement of the field as salary basis, as well as draw up a written contract of employment.
  • The employer should also be aware of the Labor Conditions Act as regards young employees. For instance, inducting a young person into his/her work tasks is to be performed with special care. Read more: Nuori työntekijä - Tyosuojelu.fi - Työsuojeluhallinto
  • When the young person's summer job has been completed, the employer applies to the City of Vantaa for the young people it hired by November 30, 2025. The financial support can only be paid if the account arrives in time and the employment relationship meets the terms and conditions set for it. The employer must also provide a payslip in connection with the account.
  • More detailed accounting instructions will be placed on this website during the course of spring 2025.
  • Remember to write a certificate of employment for the young person, so that he or she can utilize it in future job seeking.

More information

Processing of personal data Summer-job voucher for the young

Employer, submit an account of summer-job voucher for the young electronically by November 30, 2025

When the young person's summer job has been completed, the employer shall apply to the City of Vantaa for compensation for the young person or persons it hired by November 30, 2025. The account form will be available as of May 20, 2025.

The financial support can only be paid if the account arrives in time and the employment relationship meets the terms and conditions set for it. The employer must also provide a payslip in connection with the account.

Apply for summer job voucher support (€300) through the City of Vantaa's grant-application system.

Log into the grant-application system with your Suomi.fi identifiers. Using the system requires strong identification.   You can also apply for the summer voucher as a private person.

Suomi.fi identification is a strong identification service with which you can log into several Finnish e-Services. The identification method is used in services where the user’s identity must be verified. You can log into the grant-application system with Finnish bank identifiers, mobile ID, or certificate card.

Enter into the application system's search box, for example, “summer job,” and the system will find the correct form to use. Click on the "Aloita asiointi” (“Begin transacting”) button at the bottom right, which opens the account form.

Fill out with care the required fields and attach the payslip.

Send the account form by November 30, 2025, since accounts arrived late will not be accounted for.

After checking the account form, the summer-job remuneration (€300) will be paid to the employer’s account, provided that all conditions are met. If you fail to account for the summer-job voucher by the deadline, if the attachments requested (payslip) are lacking, or if the conditions for the summer-job voucher (the minimum wage of the young person for 60 hours of work must be at minimum €500) are not met, the summer job voucher compensation will not be paid.

The summer job voucher support will be paid to the bank account, announced by the employer, approximately within a month from the arrival of the application. We will collect any support paid on the basis of erroneous data or in case the support was used for a purpose other than what it was meant for.
