In its meeting on June 19, 2023, the city council chose Pekka Timonen as the new mayor. The current mayor, Ritva Viljanen, will retire on August 1, 2023. The mayor’s position is valid until further notice, beginning on August 1, 2023.
The meeting ratified Vantaa’s 2023-2025 welfare plan. Due to the wellbeing services county reform, the City of Vantaa's health and social welfare services and rescue operations were transferred to Vantaa and Kerava wellbeing services county's responsibility as of the beginning of 2023. Even after the reform, municipalities will retain their legislative duty to promote their residents’ health and welfare. Vantaa’s welfare plan is a city-level program, executing the Wellbeing-creating Vantaa strategic theme, which will be implemented in 2023-2025. From the perspective of health and welfare promotion work, Vantaa’s special characteristics are cultural and linguistic diversity and strong regionalization.
All the city’s actors are responsible for implementing the welfare plan together with the city's partners.
