In the future, young people ending basic education are obliged to apply for upper secondary education in the joint application.
In Vantaa, general upper secondary education is provided in five Finnish-speaking general upper secondary day schools, one Swedish-speaking general upper secondary school, Vantaa general upper secondary school for adults and the Sotunki general upper secondary school's adult studies (remote studies)...
The syllabus of a general upper secondary school comprises at least 75 courses or 150 study credits. The studies can be completed in 2-4 years.
The purpose of school meals is to provide the students with nutritious and tasty food that meets the nutrition recommendations. A school meal is served every day, and it is free of charge.
All schools in Vantaa have a special needs teacher who helps students with any learning difficulties and developing their studying skills.
During their general upper secondary school studies, students can participate in and influence the school's and also the City of Vantaa's operations by becoming active in their school's student board, for example.
The Students on the Move programme supports the physical activity and study abilities of students of Vantaa Vocational College Varia and local upper secondary schools.
TUVA education combined previous additional basic education (10th grade), preparatory education for general upper secondary education (LUVA) and preparatory education for basic vocational education (VALMA).
Vantaa Vocational College Varia and Lumo general upper secondary education employs youth workers who act as safe adults in the schools' everyday life. Youth workers organise activities for both individuals and small groups as well as activities that reinforce the sense of community.
