Students on the Move

Students of Mercuria, Varia and local upper secondary schools and students who live in Vantaa but go to school in another city have free access to local swimming halls and gyms on weekdays at 6:00–16:00. More information on the benefit can be found here (link to sports venues and price lists will be added later)
The Students on the Move programme offers upper secondary school students a personal well-being training service customised to their needs. The aim of the service is to support and encourage students to be active, to create positive and encouraging experiences, and to promote the overall well-being of students. The service is provided free of charge and customised to the needs of the student. For more information, please contact the project coordinators or your school nurse.
The course introduces you to the basics of gym training: safe techniques, planning your own training programme and gym etiquette. No previous experience is needed. Wear indoor training clothes and shoes and bring a water bottle.
The running school is an easy and casual way to get into running. There is no need for previous experience in running or endurance training. You only need a pair of running shoes and a water bottle. The next running school will be held in April–May 2022.
The Kunnossa Inttiin (“Get fit for the military”) course organised by the National Defence University helps you meet the physical requirements of your military service and allows you to explore the garrison of Santahamina. The Students on the Move programme organises joint exercises for students participating in the course.
Practical examples of how movement and physical activities can be integrated into classrooms. Ideas, examples and tools for teachers.
Physical activity mentors are peer instructors who help add physical activities to school days and boost the team spirit of their school. The course participants learn how to be group instructors and come up with ways to add physical activities to school days. The programme coordinators help the mentors launch these activities at their school and establish routines.
What is a good working position? How should you sit, lift heavy loads or work long days? Exercises and moves to improve ergonomics and recovery. The course consists of a brief lesson and exercises that improve your mobility, flexibility and deep muscles. The course is customised to the needs present in your industry.
Which factors are stressful and which help you recover when you study? How do you help yourself recover during the day and at night? Why is relaxing and recovery important to your ability to study and overall well-being? This course gives answers to these questions. The participants have the opportunity to take a Firstbeat well-being survey.
