Art Museum Artsi’s exhibition explores how skateboarding as a subculture and the street as a cultural environment have influenced contemporary artists. The exhibition is open Fri 14 April till Sun 27 August 2023 at Artsi’s exhibition space in Myyrmäkitalo.

Skate, that is skateboarding culture, landed extensively in Finland in the 1980s. Since the 1980s, it has become an established part of Finnish youth and urban culture. Artsi’s FLIP! Skate & Art -exhibition reflects how skateboarding, as a subculture, has impacted the visual artists engaged in skateboarding and how it has been interpreted in visual arts. The exhibition seeks connections between the visuality of skateboarding, do-it-your-self culture, and art works of contemporary visual artists.
