Enroll in free hobbies for schoolchildren – almost 250 groups are on offer
Vantaa of Many Hobbies again offers schoolchildren free-of-charge activities after the school day. This year, our selection consists of altogether 40 different hobbies.
Enrollment in Vantaa of Many Hobbies for elementary-school students has begun. This year, we are offering 40 different hobbies, requested by children and the young, as well as almost 250 hobby groups. The selection ranges from the visual arts to street art; from coding to data contents, and from skating to climbing.
Hobbies are primarily arranged after the school day, and activities begin in September. Elementary school students’ school-specific hobby groups take place at the school, and primarily the students in the school in question can enroll in them. If there is room in a group, also students at other schools can enroll in the hobbies. Elementary school students are also offered open groups, which do not assemble on the school premises, and which are open to all elementary-school-age children in Vantaa.
This year, hobby groups for junior high-schoolers are not school-specific: all Vantaa youth can participate in them. The groups’ age limit has been changed in such a way that 6th-graders are welcome to groups meant for elementary school children and junior high-schoolers.
Vantaa of Many Hobbies constitutes a part of the Finnish model for promoting hobbies. The Finnish model for promoting hobbies is a national operating model—financed by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the City of Vantaa—whose aim is to promote the wellbeing and inclusion of children and the young through hobbies.
