Gas pipeline construction work continues in Heidehof Park – changes to pedestrian routes as work progresses
In addition to the construction of the Vantaa light rail, preparatory and construction works related to gas transmission company Gasgrid’s high-pressure gas pipeline, as well as the construction of a pressure reduction station, will be carried out in the area during weeks 35–46.
Work schedule
- A roller track for the gas pipelines will be constructed and is scheduled to be completed in week 40.
- Gasgrid’s pipeline works are estimated to take place during weeks 41–43. During this time, the pipes will be brought to the storage area, lifted onto the roller track and welded on site.
- The final stage of the work, directional drilling, will be carried out in week 44.
- After these work stages, the removal of the crushed-stone foundations will begin in week 45. The removal work is estimated to take a maximum of approximately two weeks.
- The aim is to complete the low-pressure gas pipeline from Heidehof Park all the way to Käärmekallio by the end of this year.
Impacts on movement
Pedestrian and cycling routes through the park will have to be closed at the work areas, as it is not possible to carry out the work safely without closures. Pedestrians and cyclists will be directed to detour routes around the work areas. Traffic controllers will be present when necessary during construction traffic.
Tree felling will also be carried out south of Heidehof Park. To ensure that the work can be carried out safely, the recreational route may need to be temporarily closed, in which case traffic will be directed to a detour route.
What is happening in the area?
A roller track will be constructed in the work area to move and install the gas pipeline. The roller track will be built on a crushed-stone base, and the gas pipeline will be lifted onto it before directional drilling.
The work also includes constructing a storage area for the pipes and felling individual trees near the work area.
Construction machinery will be operating in the area during the works. The construction does not involve piling, but the movement of machinery, construction of the crushed-stone foundations and subsequent removal work may cause occasional vibration that can be felt in nearby buildings.
Work will continue later
After this autumn’s works, the major gas pipeline construction stages in the area will be completed. Smaller connection works will be carried out later, estimated to take place next year.
