Time slot fees for Vantaa sports facilities to increase from 1 January 2025

The time slot fees for sports facilities will increase on 1 January 2025. The price increases concern all sports facilities. This means that the fees for using swimming hall lanes and pools, ice rinks, ball game and sports halls, outdoor fields, and gyms, among other facilities, will increase. The fees for using the facilities of daycare centres, schools and educational institutions will also change.

The pricing and fee categories for sports facilities will be harmonised in connection with the price adjustment. From September 2025 onwards, the usage fees for the gyms of daycare centres, schools and educational institutions will be set according to the size of the gym.

There are several reasons for the price adjustment. On the one hand, the fees must be adjusted due to the increase in value-added tax for sports services from 10 per cent to 14 per cent. On the other hand, the price adjustment is a result of increases in costs in general and the harmonisation of booking fees. 

Facilities for children and young people free of charge

The price adjustment is also related to the reform of the basis for sports facility fees, which has been introduced gradually since 2022. The aim of the reform is to increase the availability of accessible and affordable leisure activities by offering sports facilities for low-threshold activities free of charge.

Eligible sports clubs and organisations may use the city’s sports facilities to organise leisure activities for children under the age of 18 free of charge.

This applies to so-called basic sports facilities. In practice, this means daycare centre and school gyms no larger than 200 square metres, gravel pitches, natural ice rinks, fitness tracks and walking trails. From 1 September 2025 onwards, time slots for activities for children under the age of 18 will also be available free of charge at gyms of 250 square metres.

The targeted grant for recreational sports can be applied for low-threshold leisure activities for all ages. The grant allows sports facilities to be used free of charge. 

All sports facility fees will be adjusted at the turn of the year

In addition to the time slot fees, other sports service fees will also be adjusted on 1 January 2025. The price adjustments concern, for example, swimming halls and their gyms as well as instructed exercise sessions.
