Vantaa Light Rail Construction Works on Kyytitie During Summer 2026

Construction of the Vantaa Light Rail will continue in phases along the Kyytitie section during summer 2026. The works will be most noticeable in traffic arrangements, pedestrian routes, and certain individual street sections.

Heidehof Park Area and the Section Between Kyytitie and Kanervantie

No significant changes are planned during the summer in the Heidehof Park area east of Kyytitie, which is currently closed to traffic. Construction work will continue as normal. The first rail tracks will be installed in July between Kanervantie and Heidehof Park.

During the summer, the pedestrian and bicycle path on the south side of Kyytitie will receive its final asphalt surface. The section to be paved is the pedestrian connection from Tukkukaupankuja to Heidehof Park.

Utility works will continue along Kanervantie throughout the summer as part of the normal construction process. The pedestrian route on the south side of Kyytitie will remain open throughout the summer. In front of Kesko’s premises, track foundation works will be carried out during the summer, resulting in minor changes to traffic lanes in the area. At the same time, a gas pipeline will be installed beneath the existing roadway. These arrangements are expected to begin in late June and continue for approximately one month. The number of traffic lanes will remain unchanged, although their positions will be temporarily adjusted.

Modifications will also be made at Kesko’s access gate on Kanervantie, causing minor changes to vehicle traffic at that location.

Vanha Porvoontie and Porttisuontie

Traffic arrangements at Vanha Porvoontie will change by the end of June when the intersection is converted into a roundabout. The arrangements will be adjusted in phases as construction progresses, and the roundabout is expected to remain in use for approximately one and a half years. Any relocation of bus stops will be communicated separately by HSL. The pedestrian crossing traffic lights west and north of the intersection will be taken out of service during the school summer holidays.

At Salpakuja, new underground infrastructure will be installed beneath the street, causing phased changes to traffic arrangements at the intersection of Kyytitie and Salpakuja.

On Porttisuontie, arrangements will change at the beginning of June so that pedestrians are directed through the parking area along the street, while traffic lanes will be moved closer to the edge of the roadway.

Kaskelantie, Pitkäsentie and Lahdentie Areas

In the Kaskela area, north of Kyytitie, ground reinforcement works for the future rail line and new street infrastructure will be carried out during the summer.

At the end of July, the section of Kyytitie passing in front of the former bus depot on Pitkäsentie will be temporarily closed, and vehicle traffic will be diverted through the old depot area. This temporary arrangement will also affect bus services. The change is related to the installation of a culvert pipe beneath Kyytitie, as well as district heating and stormwater works.

On Lahdentie, construction will begin after mid-June with utility works and preparatory stages for bridge construction. Vehicle traffic will be alternated through a single lane controlled by traffic signals. Later in the summer, ground reinforcement works and piling for the foundations of the new bridge will be carried out.

Construction is progressing simultaneously at several locations along the Kyytitie corridor, and more detailed schedules will be confirmed as the work advances. Residents and road users will be informed of changes as new traffic arrangements and detour routes are introduced.
