Vantaa residents are getting new cultural premises - Jumbo library's opening will be celebrated on October 15-18

Jumbo library is located in Viihdekortteli (“Entertainment Quarter”) of Jumbo Shopping Center, at: Tasetie 8, 01510 Vantaa.

As of October 15, the library will be open on weekdays from 9:00 to 20:00, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 to 18:00, excluding certain public holidays. 

Jumbo library is meant for everybody 

In addition to serving Aviapolis residents, Jumbo library will welcome all residents of Vantaa, as well as customers of the Helmet Library network who visit Jumbo Shopping Center.  

“Jumbo library is a splendid addition to Vantaa's library network.  It continues the work of the former Pointti Library as a communal meeting place while offering new opportunities for reading, learning, culture, and spending time together," says Rauha Maarno, Manager of Vantaa Library Services.

"We are extremely pleased that the library is opening a branch at Jumbo.  The library will further strengthen the diverse services available at our center and provide our customers with new opportunities to enjoy themselves, meet others, and spend time together.  At the same time, we are fulfilling a long-standing wish from our customers to bring library services to Jumbo," says Olli Lehtoaro, Shopping Center Director at Jumbo.

Maarno believes that the library's central location and the easiness of transacting will make Jumbo library one of the busiest libraries in Vantaa. 

The library spaces are designed for myriad kinds of activities 

There is room for everyone at the library. Approximately 1,400 square meters of space accommodates a variety of activities. There is a kitchen in connection with the large children's area where people can eat their take-out lunches and heat meals. The library also offers quiet premises for studying, and plenty of room for newspapers and magazines between the entrance and exhibition space. The multipurpose room will host fairytale hours, reading circles, book recommendations, as well as other small-scale events.  Events can also be organized on the event stage located near the entrance lobby, which will be tested during the opening celebrations.  

"Apart from the opening festivities and a few smaller events, regular event programming at Jumbo library will begin during 2027," says Marjo Päivärinta, service supervisor of Jumbo Library.

Customers participated in planning the library 

Customers were able to influence the design of Jumbo Library by responding to surveys, participating in workshops, or joining the library's sponsor family program. Planning Jumbo library generated a lot of interest, since 1,247 people responded to the survey, and more than 90 families interested in developing the library joined the sponsor family program.  

The survey revealed that Ajatusten metsä ("Forest of Thoughts") was the overwhelming favorite theme for the library's interior design. The preschool group Vihervaara from Pakkalanrinne Daycare Center also played an important role in the interior decoration process.  The children created forest-themed drawings, which were combined into a forest story that is now incorporated into the decoration of the children's section.

The opening will be celebrated from October 15 to 18

The opening celebration lasts four days, and the program includes author visits, choral performances, theater for the youngest members of the family, book recommendation concerts, and many other fun activities. In addition, the popular Supermarsu character will be making appearances throughout the library during the weekend.
