City CouncilDemocracy and Inclusion

Vantaa City Council had its first meeting in 2023 on January 30. The meeting ratified the alteration to the local detailed plan for Viertola city block of high-rise residential buildings as well as designating an unbuilt industrial lot in Hakkila as overall development of the area.

The City of Vantaa will buy an approximately 5.4-hectare unbuilt industrial lot in Hakkila from Kiinteistö Oy Sandkil. The selling price is €4 541 208. The plan is to turn the present industrial lot into a residential area. The city's comprehensive landownership ensures overall and purposeful planning of the area.

The industrial, business and office building block along Tikkurilantie in Viertola will be turned into a block of high-rise residential buildings. The 3-story building to be demolished along Tikkurilantie will be replaced with buildings that will have at max. eight stories, lowering toward the river into 4-story buildings. Street-level Tikkurilantie will have more business space. Parking will be partly subterranean. The permitted building volume will rise from the current 7 162 floor square meters to 10 424 floor square meters.

The city council also discussed several initiatives submitted by city councilors related to, for instance, the city’s sustainable economy; safer storage of nursing and housing-unit patients’ personal effects; barrier-free beach; solar energy; renewal of Tikkuraitti and Asematie; plan-monitoring service; speeding building-permit processes; schools’ Pisa results; as well as teachers’ and assistants’ summer wages.
