In its meeting on March 9, the City Executive Board decided to provide the Finnish Supervisory Agency an environmental impact statement on Itärata Oy’s East Railway project. The statement concludes that the East Railway and the Airport Line as part of it will have broad impacts on Vantaa’s public transport system.

The loss of eastern long-distance trains in Tikkurila would weaken the area’s national accessibility. The City of Vantaa deems that the impacts of changes to train traffic for Vantaa and especially Tikkurila must be investigated further. In addition, the City emphasizes that the environmental damage resulting from the project's construction and use must be minimized. The East Railway is a planned two-track line for fast traffic from Kerava to Kouvola via Porvoo, which aims to accelerate long-distance train traffic to eastern Finland.
