Associations monitor compliance with the allotment rules and, if necessary, request the cultivators to correct any issues they may have identified.
The associations also handle the communication with the City of Vantaa. The associations must notify the City of Vantaa of the contact persons and any changes in contact details in writing.
The allotment must be cultivated and maintained. The plants must be arranged so that they can be tended to from within the boundaries of the plot and do not disturb other cultivators. The area must be used exclusively for cultivation.
In addition to useful plants and flowers, the allotment plot may be used to grow berry plants up to 1.5 m high. Trees or ornamental shrubs should not be grown on the allotment. Perennial plants must be planted far enough from ditches and paths.
Plants or seeds imported from abroad may not be grown on the allotment.
It is forbidden to plant or sow invasive species on the allotment. Invasive species are harmful, and they do not belong to Finnish nature. Invasive species include lupine, Indian balsam and giant hogweed.
Visit the Vieraslajit website to learn more about other invasive species.
You may build a compost bin and a garden toolbox for the plot. Plant supports that are up to 30 cm high are permitted around flower beds. You can use row covers or build a temporary polytunnel to grow seedlings. The height of the above structures must not exceed 100 cm.
It is forbidden to build permanent structures, such as barbecue grills, greenhouses, fences, pergolas, decks or tiled areas on the plot or in its proximity. You are also not allowed to bring indoor furniture to the allotment.
Dark green plastic-coated mesh fencing up to 120 cm high is allowed on the allotment. The cultivator must be able to remove the fence if the City of Vantaa needs to carry out maintenance work in the surrounding areas.
The allotment must not be used for storing building materials, such as boards, bricks, plastics or firewood.
During the season, any soil and fertiliser bags, water tanks, planting vessels and harvest containers must be stored in a central location on the plot or in a storage box. At the end of the season, all moveable property must be removed from the area. Only storage boxes, compost bins and large water containers may be left in the area.
All compostable waste generated on the allotment must be composted in the rental area. All non-organic waste, such as plastic and glass, must be removed from the area.
The cultivators must take care of removing weeds. Chemical plant protection products and pesticides are not allowed.
Lighting a fire on the allotment is forbidden. Open ditches must not be blocked.
The association that rents the land from the City of Vantaa is responsible for keeping the area in good condition. The association must take care of brushwood cutting at any vacant allotment plots and the spaces between them.
Associations can inquire about the possibility of renting allotments by email.
