The City of Vantaa offers services for job seekers that have moved to Vantaa from abroad.
Enroll as a job seeker
You can enroll as a job seeker online at Job Market Finland E-services service or at our office in Tikkurila, Vantaa. As soon as you have registered as a job seeker, we will offer you our services.
Language test for immigrants
If you are entitled to an integration plan and are interested in integration training, you will be booked a language test in connection with your initial job-seeking assessment. The language test is an initial language-level test so that we can, as fast as possible, find you suitable integration training. You do not have to prepare for the language test. When you get an appointment for the language test, you must participate in it. If you cannot take the language test, for example, due to illness, you must inform your own employment specialist about it as soon as possible.
Are you looking for work?
In order to work in Finland, you need a work permit.
If you are not a citizen of an EU or EEA country, or a citizen of Switzerland, you probably need a residence permit to be able to work in Finland. Your getting a Finnish residence permit often depends on your nationality and professional competence.
- EU/EEA citizens: You can freely move to Finland and seek employment.
- Citizens of other countries: You usually need a job before applying for a resident permit.
Do you want to study?
After you have enrolled as an unemployed job seeker, you can get the services provided by Vantaa Skills Center. The services provided by Vantaa Skills Center will help you improve your skills. The services consist of study guidance, digital training, and career guidance.
Study guidance will present the following themes:
- the Finnish education system
- individual study paths
- further training
- labor market training and independent studying
- studying the Finnish language
- education supported by Finnish as a second language.
Our skills center will instruct you on how to acquire vocational training or develop your Finnish-language skills. We will help you find suitable training, which will help you win employment.
In digital training, you will learn:
- how to use the Internet
- how to use a computer and increase your courage to use one
- how to use digital services.
In digital training, you will learn how to use a computer, phone, and various Internet sites. You will use a computer by yourself in digital training. We will teach you how to seek employment online. We will help you use the JobMarket Finland website and enroll as a job seeker. You can participate in digital training either in Finnish or with assistance by an interpreter.
Career counseling will help you choose an occupation
Would you like to study at a vocational school? Is it difficult for you to decide on an occupation? Career counseling gives you information on different occupations. Your employment specialist will introduce different occupations to you. Your employment specialist will also tell you which occupation could be suitable for you. You will get information about studies and school requirements.
Unemployment security for under-25-year-old immigrants
Are you an under-25-year-old immigrant? You can engage in vocational studies with the help of unemployment allowance if you have some remaining integration time. During the integration period, you are entitled to integration services as long as you have an integration plan. Thus, it is important for you to apply for our services as soon as possible!
You may be entitled to unemployment allowance during basic education integration period for adults. After the integration period, you have the same obligations and rights as Employment Services’ other under-25-year-old customers.
Joint application obligation
You must apply for studies if you are under 25 years old and have no education. This is called the joint application obligation. At the spring joint application, you must apply for at least two study places.
In joint application, you apply for upper secondary education and higher education. In joint application for upper secondary education, you apply for vocational basic education and high school education. In joint application for higher education, you apply for universities and universities of applied sciences.
Do you have a vocational qualification?
The joint application obligation does not apply to you if you do not yet know enough Finnish, Swedish, or English, or if you are otherwise not yet ready for vocational studies. You can study at integration training if you have some remaining integration time. If your integration period has finished, you can study the Finnish language. You can also participate in basic education for adults.
