Labour market training develops your professional skills and improves your employment prospects.

Labour market training is organised by the employment authority. The training is planned jointly by the employment authority and the training provider. Employers can also participate in organising labour market training.

Labour market training can include:

- training to enhance professional skills and competencies
- training to improve entrepreneurial readiness
- integration training

Labour marke
t training is free of charge for you, meaning you don't have to pay participation or examination fees. However, card and permit training may involve a fee.

If you are unemployed, you are entitled to the same unemployment benefits during the training as when unemployed. If the training is included in your employment plan or a similar plan, you may be eligible for an increased unemployment benefit. The decision on the increased benefit is made by the payer of the unemployment benefit, i.e. the unemployment fund or Kela.

If participating in the training incurs costs, you may receive a daily expense allowance. If you do not receive this allowance from the unemployment fund or Kela, you can apply for a discretionary expense allowance from your local employment authority.

Prerequisites

You may be selected for labour market training if:

- you have completed your compulsory education
- the employment authority has determined that you have a need for training
- you are suitable for the training you are applying for and for the tasks the training prepares you for.

If you are under 20 years old, you can only be selected for labour market training if completing the training as self-motivated studies is not possible or appropriate.

The employment authority organising the training decides on student selection. The authority ensures that you meet the entry requirements for the training. The selection process may include interviews and suitability assessments. You will receive a written decision from the employment authority regarding the outcome of the selection.
