Winter holiday is made of bouncy castles, movies, games and art

News

In Vantaa schools, the winter holiday week will be held 17–23 February. The city will organise a variety of activities that pupils can attend during their holiday. Here are some highlighted activities to include in your child’s winter holiday programme.

Ice skating, camping and wintertime activities

Wintertime activities will be provided at Energia Areena in Myyrmäki on Thursday 20 February from 9:00 to 13:00. The event will include activities such as acrobatic feats, ball games and a bouncy castle. Those looking to exercise can also head to the ice rinks where skating times on the public ice will be available. Check the rink-specific schedules on the rinks’ websites. During the winter holiday, there will also be sports-oriented winter holiday camps for children, a few of which still have room for new participants. You can learn more about the camps at vantaa.fi/liikuntakurssit.

During the holiday week, children can also attend pop-up swimming schools. Free swimming lessons will be held at the Hakunila swimming school 17–20 February. The schedules and registration instructions for swimming schools can be found on FitPit’s website.

Games, movies and art

Winter holiday activities held at libraries include a Pokémon card game tournament, board games, chess, PlayStation gaming, an evening of problem-solving games, crafting a streamer, a crochet workshop and a night of plushies.

Cultural House Martinus will host movie screenings 18–19 February. The programme will include Inside Out 2, Ant Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Lightyear. A screening of a children’s movie will also be held in Lumosali on Wednesday 19 February.

Those interested in art can participate in art camps in Myyrmäki and Tikkurila. These wintertime art camps draw ideas from snowy nature, frost and the joy of winter. The Children’s Cultural Centre Toteemi will also provide winter holiday art courses for 7–12-year-olds. The Children's Cultural Centre Pyykkitupa will organise a snow globe workshop, and the Children’s Cultural Centre Pessi will organise a box theatre workshop and a Room Box workshop.

Aviation Museum and Heureka

Interesting things to do during the holiday week can also be found at the Aviation Museum and Science Centre Heureka. The Aviation Museum’s themed guided tours With or Without Skis? for children (held Thu–Sat at 11:00) examine flying in winter conditions. At Heureka, winter holiday science and space camps will be organised in week 8 as two-day camps. Ticket sales for the camps will end on 7 February.

Wide variety of things to do for young people

West Side Vernissa will host its own art camp 17–19 February. The camp is intended for young people aged 10–17, and it introduces the participants to different art forms under the guidance of art professionals. The art forms are animation, visual arts and theatre.
Youth centres also have many interesting activities for the winter holiday week. The holiday programmes for youth centres and young adults will be published closer to the winter holiday at Vantaa.fi.

Winter holiday in Kuusijärvi

During the winter holiday week in Kuusijärvi, the City of Vantaa will offer additional space for campfires and cooking your own packed lunch. The campfire hut will be open, free of charge, daily 15–23 February 2025 from 10:00 to 17:00 in cooperation with Café Kuusijärvi. At other times, you can rent the campfire hut for private use from Café Kuusijärvi.

In addition, there will be an accessible campfire site on the eastern shore of Lake Kuusijärvi, where there are three campfire sites, picnic tables, waste bins and scenic jetties. There will be some firewood at the fire site, but this amount of wood may not be enough for everyone. Please be prepared to bring your own firewood.

All services in Kuusijärvi will be open as normal during the winter holiday.

HSL bus line 712 will operate between Tikkurila and Kuusijärvi from 15 February to 23 February 2025. The HSL bus line will run daily to Kuusijärvi via Hakunila during the winter holiday week. Bus 712 covered the same route in the 2024 summer season. In addition, you can get to Kuusijärvi with HSL’s other bus connections. Regular HSL tickets are accepted as tickets.
