Construction Works for the Vantaa Light Rail Begin at Ring III Near the Hakunilantie Bridge

Preparatory Works to Begin in September

Preparatory works for the new bridge will begin in September 2026 on Hakunilantie with the implementation of temporary traffic arrangements required during construction. On the Ring III side, work will commence later in the autumn.

The preparatory phase includes the implementation of temporary traffic management measures, the establishment of construction site areas, and lane widening works on Ring III. These preparatory works will be completed by the end of 2026.

Demolition of the existing Hakunilantie bridge is scheduled to begin in January 2027.

Changes to Traffic Arrangements

During the construction of the temporary traffic arrangements, vehicle traffic from Hakunilantie to Ring III will be diverted via nearby intersections. Throughout the construction period, access from Hakunilantie to westbound Ring III will remain available via the junction north of the bridge construction site, while access to eastbound Ring III will remain available via the junction south of the bridge.

Pedestrian and cycling routes will be redirected to a nearby overpass for the duration of the works.

More detailed information about the changing traffic arrangements will be provided during the autumn.

Existing Bridge to Be Demolished

The bridge carrying Hakunilantie over Ring III will be demolished due to its poor condition. The new bridge to be built in its place will serve road traffic, light rail services, pedestrians, and cyclists in the future.

The Hakunilantie bridge will be closed to all traffic throughout 2027.
