Construction Works Progress at the Hakunilantie Bridge Site – Temporary Traffic Arrangements to Be Introduced on Ring Road III
Construction works related to the replacement of the Hakunilantie bridge are progressing, and the implementation of temporary traffic arrangements on Ring Road III will begin in week 42. The arrangements will be introduced in phases and will be fully in place by week 44. Two traffic lanes in each direction will remain available on Ring Road III at the Hakunilantie bridge site. These changes are necessary to prepare for the bridge demolition and reconstruction works.
Traffic Arrangements to Change Gradually on Ring Road III
Preparatory works for the replacement of the Hakunilantie bridge are currently underway in the bridge area. The implementation of temporary traffic arrangements on Ring Road III will begin in week 42, when lane widening works and site area preparations will commence. The arrangements will be introduced in phases and will be fully in place by week 44. Two traffic lanes in each direction will remain available on Ring Road III at the Hakunilantie bridge site.
The interchange ramps will remain open to traffic during the initial stages of the project.
As part of the traffic arrangements, construction site areas will be established and lane widening works will begin on Ring Road III near the Hakunilantie bridge. The lanes will be widened along the roadside areas to provide the space required for the temporary traffic arrangements as well as the subsequent bridge demolition and reconstruction works.
The traffic arrangements and lane widening works now being implemented will enable the project to be carried out safely while maintaining traffic flow during construction. The first phase of the works and the associated traffic arrangements are expected to remain in place until the end of November.
Existing Bridge to Be Demolished
The bridge carrying Hakunilantie over Ring Road III will be demolished due to its poor condition. Demolition work is scheduled to begin in January 2027.
The new bridge to be built in its place will accommodate road traffic, tram traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists in the future.
The Hakunilantie bridge will be closed to all traffic throughout 2027.
