Traffic routes in Virkamies will change starting 9 March
The construction of the Vantaa Light Rail is progressing in the Virkamies area. Through traffic on Toinen savu will be cut off on 9 March. Alternative vehicle routes are via Pakkalantie and Lentoasemantie.
In the aerial photo, Toinen savu can be seen coming from the direction of Ring Road III. The light rail route follows Toinen savu for a short distance and then turns right into the Plootukallio forest.
Construction of the Vantaa Light Rail is progressing. New work sites will start from 9 March, and vehicle traffic routes in the Virkamies area will change. Routes for walking and cycling will remain mostly unchanged and will stay open at least on one side of the road throughout the works.
We will close Toisen savu to through‑traffic, with alternative routes via Pakkalantie and Lentoasemantie. The Toinen savu work site is shown in yellow on the map, and the alternative routes in blue. The closure is expected to remain in place until autumn.
In March, we also plan to start district heating construction on Virkatie. The work area is marked in yellow on Virkatie. Both the roadway and the pedestrian–cycle path will be routed around the adjacent gravel field. Traffic lights will control one‑way traffic through the work zone.
NOTE! Driving prohibited for vehicles longer than 13 meters at the district heating worksite. The district heating works will be completed during the spring.
In April, Aviabulevardi will also be closed to vehicle traffic, with a detour via Turbiinitie. Buses will also move to Turbiinitie in April. We will provide separate updates on these. We apologise for any inconvenience.
