Vantaa will once again implement the very popular playground meals

This is the fifth summer that Vantaa arranges playground meals. Warm meals and picnic bags will be distributed free of charge to under-18-year-old Vantaa residents in various places around the city from June 5 to July 7, on weekdays at 11:00–12:00, or for as long as food is available.

The contents of the hot meals and picnic bags vary on a daily basis. The picnic bag includes a fruit, juice soup or smoothie, a biscuit snack and pastry, such as Karelian pastry. The meals and picnic bags distributed may contain foodstuffs that are not suitable for those on special diets.

Last summer, around 15,660 warm meals and picnic bags were distributed in playground meals. The City of Vantaa wants to make the everyday lives of families with children easier during the children’s summer vacation with the help of playground meals.

“The City of Vantaa wants to support families with children. Playground meals have proven to be a fine and functional way to do this, and they have given many families joy, relief, and wellbeing. In addition, eating outdoors together is a lot of fun!” says acting mayor Katri Kalske.

Welcome to have a meal and some outdoor exercise!

• Bring your own drink and your own flatware: a bowl, spoon, and fork.
• Prepare yourself for the weather since we are eating outdoors.
• We also offer you other nice program, such as music and exercise.
• Folk music concert Pölypuhetta will visit the playground meal sites during week 23.
• Sports Services will arrange guided pop-up activities and bring exercise equipment to the playground meals.
• A bookmobile will visit Hakunila, Mikkola, Korso, and Myyrmäki playground meal events.
