The City Council granted a guarantee for investments in Vantaa’s light rail depot
After a vote during its meeting on February 23, the City Council granted an absolute guarantee of at most 110 million euros to Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd for investments in Vantaa’s light rail depot in Vaarala. In addition, the Council entered the City of Vantaa's anti-corruption guideline for information.
In accordance with the Vantaa light rail project plan, Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd shall build the Vantaa light rail depot in Vaarala and acquire Vantaa’s light rail vehicles. The Vaarala depot will include a light rail vehicle shed, repair and maintenance facilities, technical and social facilities, staff parking and offices and the necessary facilities for storing and repairing track maintenance equipment. The estimated investment costs of the depot amount to approximately 94 million euros. The aim is for the depot's contractor to be chosen during early spring 2026. The actual construction is estimated to take place during 2026–2028 so that the depot would be ready for passenger traffic use in 2029.
New anti-corruption guideline for the city
The new anti-corruption guideline describes what corruption is, which functions are especially sensitive to corruption and the measures that can be taken to prevent corruption. The guideline contains many references to the city's numerous existing guidelines that provide guidance on the right practices to prevent corruption. In addition, the guideline includes an anti-corruption model. The model requires that suspicions of corruption are investigated independently and effectively addressed. The guideline is intended to be implemented in the city's departments during 2026, and the guideline should be used in the induction of new employees.
