Vantaa Adult Education Centre organises civic education, basic adult education, and foreign language and integration training for immigrants.

Vantaa Adult Education Centre is one of the biggest adult education centres in Finland

Founded over 60 ago, the Vantaa Adult Education Centre is one of the biggest adult education centres in Finland. Every year, 35,000 students study and 350 class teachers work at the Centre, in addition 50 professionals who are working full time. The Vantaa Adult Education Centre is also one of the biggest educators of immigrants. We take pride in our important social role as the integrator of immigrants. We know that it is of utmost importance for the future of Finland how well the residents who have moved to Finland will integrate into our society.

The Vantaa Adult Education Centre has also a long history of integrating migrants: people who moved to city suburbs from other places in Finland found each other and integrated into their communities in the 1960-1970s. The role of migrant integrator continues to be of significance in Finland of the 2010s and goes hand in hand with the integration of immigrants.

We create a community spirit and fly the flag for education

The educational activity of the adult education centres started already at the end of the 1800s. Today, there are about 200 adult education centres in Finland. The adult education centre is a good option for different people and people with various life situations. The Vantaa Adult Education Centre brings Vantaa residents who are spread over a vast territory together and creates a novel community spirit around it. According to research, the Centre creates versatile well-being – both physical and mental. The Centre is an advocate of lifelong learning, education and equality of people.

Finland would not be Finland without adult education centres. Vantaa would not be Vantaa without the Vantaa Adult Education Centre. Finnish people often forget that the learning opportunity offered by adult education centres is not something taken for granted from the international point of view. This stirs admiration in the world.

We encourage Vantaa residents to lifelong education

The future digitised and automated world requires people to take initiative and be motivated to continuously learn something new. This does not mean, however, that everyone has to acquire a new professional qualification. A curious mind and desire to master new skills take people and the society forward.

Every person learns. Therefore, the Vantaa Adult Education Centre wants to be open to everybody. We offer citizens equal opportunities to acquire new skills and encourage Vantaa residents to lifelong learning. The Vantaa Adult Education Centre is willing to offer citizens high-quality and wide-ranging learning opportunities and cut away the threshold to the classroom.

At the Vantaa Adult Education Centre, we believe that creativity and, for example, different manual skills will gain a new value in the ear of artificial intelligence. A human bakes better bread and writes more moving stories than a robot. This is why the activity of the adult education centres is also a guarantee that Finnish people will cope in the future.
