Youth council
The youth council is an influencing body set up to ensure young people's opportunities for participation and influence as referred to in Section 26 of the Municipal Act. In Vantaa, the youth council has been operating since 2000.
The youth council guards young people's interests and raises issues important to young people. 30 regular members are elected to the youth council for two years at a time. Council representatives are aged 13–20.
Youth council representatives have the right to attend and speak in Vantaa city council, city board and committees. The activity is politically independent.
The youth council meets monthly. It takes initiatives for the city board, issues statements, participates in various working groups and organizes events aimed at young people. The youth council also cooperates with the boards of the school's student unions to improve conditions in the schools.
