The tradition of storytelling continues at Mosaiikki - come and listen to stories or tell your own
Storytelling open mic events will start in the urban culture center Mosaiikki in Kivistö on 31 October. Storytelling is based on improvisation or pre-prepared stories and sharing them with the audience. In Mosaiikki, the stories are told in English.
The model for storytelling in Mosaiikki is the Storytelling Night of the Mezrab cultural center in Amsterdam, where people gather to tell stories on stage.
Cultural producer Mira Andreeva visited the "House of Stories" and was inspired by its atmosphere, which she describes as safe, communal and warm.
- Mezrab has a strong sense of belonging. This kind of activity is much needed in Finland. Finland has a rich tradition of storytelling, but there are few places for sharing stories like this, says Andreeva.
People's need for self-expression and storytelling now gets its own stage in Mosaiikki.
- The event is in English, because we want to give opportunities for self-expression even if you don't speak Finnish, and on the other hand, you can also practice your English language skills here, adds Andreeva.
The first event is on Thursday 31 October at 6 pm. You can participate in the event either as a storyteller or as a listener. Registration as a storyteller is continuous. If you want to be a storyteller, send a message in English to mosaiikki@vantaa.fi.
You can also sign up to be a storyteller spontaneously on the spot, when you put your wish and name in the hat at the door. The presenter chooses storytellers out of that hat. Each storyteller gets 10 minutes on stage.
The events are hosted by musician and artist Annie Trippah. Admission to the events is free.
