Construction begins on Tilustie and the new tram street connection on Rivieranraitio
Construction work on Tilustie and Rivieranraitio will begin in week 16. As preparatory work, topsoil will be removed and surcharge embankments will be constructed to strengthen the ground. The first phase of construction will not cause any changes to traffic arrangements.
Information about the works
Preparatory work will begin with the removal of stumps and topsoil in the area. Three surcharge embankments, each approximately 50 metres long and over one metre high, will be built on Tilustie and Rivieranraitio. The embankments are constructed as a ground‑improvement measure. They are temporary structures and will be removed once street construction begins, after the required ground conditions have been achieved. Building the embankments is estimated to take about one month, after which they will remain in place to consolidate the soil for at least six months.
Due to the construction of the surcharge embankments, earthmoving operations will take place in the area, increasing heavy traffic in the vicinity.
The construction areas, site access points and the locations of the surcharge embankments are shown on the map below.
