The unique Jugend manor will open to the public in spring 2026
The main building in Hakunila’s Håkansböle manor will be renovated into a unique manor museum, open to the public. The multi-year development of the manor buildings and park will begin when the indoor premises of the main building are renovated in 2024 - 2025, and activities will commence in spring 2026. Håkansböle main building is a genuine and original example of Jugend architecture. It is a Finnish specialty, ranging from the manor building to its objects and furniture.
The main building in itself is an exhibition. In the manor museum, the objects, tiled stoves, and wallpapers tell stories about the manor and its residents. Furthermore, changing exhibitions will make it possible to highlight wider pedagogical contents. In addition to exhibitions, the museum will have versatile public activities, for example, guided tours, workshops, performances, museum shop services, and small-scale city receptions. The dining hall will be the main event space, for instance, for small-scale cultural events.
During the events, the main building will act as an information and service point. The city museum and several other actors will arrange outdoor events in the area, for example, park concerts, outdoor theater, sales, camps for children, dances, picnics, flea markets, as well as seasonal events. New events can be developed in cooperation with local entrepreneurs, residents, other Vantaa manor actors, and Hakunila sports park.
As a whole, Håkansböle manor and its environs are a highly important cultural environment, listed among the national built cultural environments. The manor comprises the main building, the yard, the nearby outbuildings, as well as the manor park. The entire area is designated as antiquity.
Vantaa light rail disposition plan was ratified
After voting, the city executive board decided to ratify the disposition plan for Vantaa light rail. The disposition plan defines the vision of Vantaa as a light-rail city, as well as assesses the impacts of its dimensioning and development. The disposition plan specifies the regional solutions of the 2020 local master plan that entered into force on January 11, 2023. The disposition plan acts as the basis of the light rail project plans and the assessments related to it.
The rail disposition plan forecasts the following about the dimensioning of the planning area: population could grow by more than 60,000 people and jobs by around 30,000 by 2050. The impacts of developing the light-rail city will be assessed on the basis of this disposition plan. We are currently analyzing the reports concerning traffic and property economics. A more in-depth assessment of the impacts will be compiled in the course of the summer. A proposal will be made on the basis of the draft's interaction and assessment, which should be ready for approval in late 2023.
2023 - 2025 planning program: Vantaa to become a large city of cozy areas dominated by small houses
The city executive board entered the 2023-2025 planning program for information. The program helps realize the focuses of the city strategy: financially sustainable and vibrant city; good resident-oriented services, prevention of inequality; and ensuring carbon neutrality. The program consists of projects to be completed this year, as well as projects planned for 2024 - 2025.
Development focuses on city centers as versatile housing, services, and workplace areas. The aims are sustainable land use; urban block structure; and pleasant local environments where cycling, walking, and public transportation are the most natural ways of mobility.
The planning program consists of several plans for daycare centers, schools, and other service premises, as well as local detailed plans for sports, culture, and leisure projects. Local detailed plans for workplace projects are prepared in cooperation with businesses for both privately and city-own land. Approximately 92 000 k-m2 of new workplace floor square meters are planned for local detailed plans in 2023.
In the near future, housing production will focus on Kivistö, Myyrmäki, and Aviapolis, even though Tikkurila, Hakunila, and Korso will have large projects, too. A special goal is to increase planning for small housing and to develop Vantaa as a city of areas dominated by small houses. New areas dominated by small houses are planned for various parts of the city and they will consist of one-family houses, semi-detached houses, as well as townhouses.

The alteration to the Viinikkala local detailed plan will raise Vantaankosken mylly by around 1.2 meters, and it will be renovated and expanded into an event venue accommodating approximately 240 people. Furthermore, a hotel and a tavern with saunas will be built in the area. The protected dam will be widened to improve the pathway for fish. A bridge may be built in Suuri Rantatie. The local detailed plan continues to protect the stone facades of the mill and the power plant, the volunteer fire station, and almost all of the dam. Next, the plan alteration will be submitted for the city council's approval.
The alteration to the local detailed plan for Ainontie 5 in Hämeenkylä is made available for public inspection. The storage building block will be turned into a block of industrial, storage and business buildings, and a part of Ring Road III will be attached to it. The total permitted building volume will remain unchanged. The local detailed plan for Ainontie 10 will change the block of small houses into a block of residential buildings.
