The School Health Promotion study in Vantaa

The School Health Promotion study provides national follow-up data on 10-20-year-olds’ wellbeing, health, social inclusion, and experiences of receiving service, and it is implemented in the spring of uneven years all over the country. The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) is responsible for implementing the survey.

The School Health Promotion study gives versatile and reliable follow-up information on the wellbeing and health of children and the young, as well as on factors affecting them. The survey is conducted by educational institutions nationally every other year, in the spring of odd-numbered years.  Responding to the survey is voluntary and anonymous. The results are published in the fall of odd-numbered years.  The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) is responsible for the implementation of the survey. The city-level results are public and available on THL’s online result service.  

Target group of the survey 

  • 4th- and 5th-grade students in basic education
  • 8th- and 9th-grade students in basic education
  • 1st- and 2nd-year students in high schools, and
  • 1st- and 2nd-year students in vocational institutions.

In upper secondary schools, the survey is aimed at students completing the general upper secondary education syllabus or a foreign diploma, and in vocational institutions, it is aimed at students completing an initial vocational qualification and TUVA students.

This is how Vantaa utilizes the results of the School Health Promotion study results

Promoting health and welfare is an important task of the municipality. The essential sources of the wellbeing data on children, young, and families with children are School Health Promotion study and FinLapset survey. Vantaa will versatilely utilize these results in its own activities on city level, department level, and in its service areas, especially in early childhood education department, basic education, and upper secondary education. The data will also be used in multidisciplinary teams and networks, as well as in cooperation with partners. Experiential knowledge constitutes an important part of knowledge-based management, planning operations, development, assessment, and decisionmaking.
