Youth work at schools

Vantaa schools have youth workers whose task is to act as safe adults in everyday school life. The aim of having youth workers at Vantaa schools is to support students' overall wellbeing and to streamline studying.

Introduction

Youth work at schools adds one safe adult more into the school community. Moreover, it supports the growth, learning, and development of the young. Youth work at schools is conducted in specified schools and it is targeted at 4th - 9th-graders. Youth work at schools offers both open activities, available to everybody, and targeted activities.

Youth workers can also support the young during their leisure time.

Comprehensive support for wellbeing

Youth workers offer everyday discussion on matters the young are concerned about. Furthermore, they support the young to reach their study goals. Youth workers working at schools provide, among others:

  • Help in boosting peer and group relationships.
  • Find leisure-time activities for the young and arrange events.
  • Improve school contentment.
  • Support in education transitions.
  • Participate in preventing bullying and violence.
  • Support the young in making friends.

Youth workers may refer the young to services suitable for them if the young need other support in addition to youth work.
