Building of Tikkurila Competence Campus’ streets and parks to begin in the fall
Building the campus begins by building the streets and parks in the course of the year 2024. In addition to the competence campus, the area will house workplaces, housing, as well as versatile services.
The campus is part of the new downtown, situated in a central and easy-to-access place along the main line and the future Vantaa light rail in Tikkurila's Jokiniemi.
“The competence campus will be a forerunner in many ways: planning of premises focuses on adjustability and joint use, building an innovative learning environment, as well as accounting for sustainability and resource-smartness,” says project manager for building the area Mia Bungers.
Attractive and pleasant urban environment
The campus area will be cozy and have its own characteristic outward appearance. The buildings and open public spaces will be built by using high-quality and sustainable materials. Trees and plants will turn the area green.
A joint school campus will be built for Tikkurilan lukio (“Tikkurila high school”), Vantaa Vocational College Varia, and Vantaa Adult Education Institute to the north of the area, near the current schools.
Villa Grönberg, to the south of the area, is a protected site, which means that it and its environment will remain a park. In addition, the area could have, for instance, leisure-time activities, cultural services, and stores.
You can access the campus area—situated along excellent public transport connections—barrier-free and flexibly by foot or bike.
Cars to the area will arrive from Jokiniemenkatu, and two parking halls have been planned for the area.
Furthermore, housing units are being planned along Jokiniemenkatu.
Building to begin in the course of the year 2024
The City of Vantaa is in charge of building the public utility services, parking halls, and the city’s educational institutions in the area.
The local detailed plan, ratified by City Council in December 2023, makes it possible to begin building the streets and parks in September 2024.
“The first buildings in the area will be completed in 2028. All in all, the area is scheduled to be completed in 2030-2032,” Bungers estimates.
