City CouncilDemocracy and Inclusion

Vantaa City Council ratified in its meeting on February 27 Vantaankosken mylly and Hämeenkylä alterations to local detailed plans. The local detailed plan for Kivistö event arena was returned to preparation to supplement defective traffic analyses.

The alteration to the local detailed plan for Vantaankosken mylly changes the mill into a place for events, and a hotel and a tavern will be built on the lot. The mill will be raised by around 1.2 meters, and it will be renovated and expanded into an event venue accommodating approximately 240 people. Furthermore, a hotel and a tavern with saunas will be built. The protected dam will be widened to improve the pathway for fish. A bridge may be built in Suuri Rantatie.

The block area of storage building on Ainontie 5 in Hämeenkylä will become a block of industrial, storage, and commercial buildings. The former central storage of Tuko has long remained underutilized. Changing the building's purpose supports Vantaa’s goal of bolstering the city's vitality by promoting development of businesses and by increasing the number of jobs in Vantaa. The Ainontie 10 local detailed plan will be updated by turning the block of small houses into a block of residential buildings.

The local detailed plan for Kivistö event arena was returned to preparation to supplement defective traffic analyses. The local detailed plan for Kivistö event arena and the alteration to it will enable a multipurpose arena and hotel, as well as restaurant, store, sports, and office space. When completed, the project will have national significance as regards arranging international football matches, myriad cultural events, and concerts.

The city council also discussed city councilors’ initiatives concerning the noise nuisance of Myyrmäki Hissikenttä; free-of-charge menstrual protection; diminishing sexual harassment in schools; West Vantaa’s civil defense shelter; maintaining Linnaisten forest; as well as promoting timber building.
