Involvement and influencing in upper secondary school
In upper secondary schools in Vantaa, students are encouraged to be actively involved during lessons, within the school, and on the local and national levels as well. Upper secondary schools support students’ growth into active citizens.
The schools provide many opportunities for involvement and influencing.
Student association activities
Every upper secondary school in Vantaa has a student association. These associations work actively in the school, at the city level, and nationally. Students choose among themselves a student association board that acts as the official student representative towards school management and the city. The student association works to have an impact on the school’s development.
Tutor activities
Tutors are older students who support students starting their first year in upper secondary school. Tutors teach new students about the school, the school community, and new friends. Tutors are trained to provide this sort of support. Tutoring activities help in integrating new students directly into the community right at the beginning. The important, joint activities of the student association board and the tutors make your own school the best possible place to be and study for you.
Youth parliament
Every two years, young people choose among themselves representatives between the ages of 13–18-to the Vantaa Youth Parliament. The youth parliament promotes issues for children and the young by making initiatives, organising events, and representing children and the young in, among others, the city’s committees.
Influential day
Influential Day is the City of Vantaa's own process for involving children and young people. The preliminary tasks address the theme of the year in all schools and educational institutions. The process culminates in an event at City Hall, where pupils and students representing schools and educational institutions bring issues of importance to children and young people to the attention of city decision-makers. Influential Day plays an important role in promoting the inclusion of children and young people in the City of Vantaa.
