Round-the-clock day care centre is always open 24 hours per day, on seven days a week and through all holidays.

The need for evening and round-the-clock care must be proven with a statement from the parent's employee or education provider. This document must state the parents' working or studying hours.

What is evening and round-the-clock care?

In Vantaa, early childhood education and care is organised on weekdays 6.00–18.00. Additionally, early childhood education and care is provided as nonstandard hour childcare outside these hours and on weekends. A day care centre can be entirely a nonstandard hour childcare unit or it can have one or two nonstandard hour childcare groups while the rest of the groups follow the regular early childhood education and care times.

A care time agreement is compiled for each child, covering the child’s total care needs (a maximum of ten hours per day for evening care). If the child needs day care during the weekend, he or she must have free days over the week to make up for these. Any potential free days that may decrease the day care fee (4–12 per month) can be agreed with the day care centre’s director when the child starts in the day care centre.

The child’s care hours are based on the parents’ work shifts and study hours. A child’s daily care hours, including the parents’ working and study times, are reported using a form. You can print the form through the link below or pick one up at a day care centre offering evening and round-the-clock care.

Criteria for receiving evening and round-the-clock care

Nonstandard hour childcare is only offered based on regular need for it due to the full-time studies or work of the child’s guardian. The child’s care hours and the guardians’ working hours must be reported in writing on Monday of the previous week. The child must have free days from day care, equalling the number of the month’s weekends and mid-week holidays. Nonstandard hour childcare is not offered during the guardian’s free days and holidays.

Occasional or sudden need for nonstandard hour childcare

If a family occasionally needs childcare during the evening, overnight or on the weekend due to their work or studies, they can negotiate on arranging temporary nonstandard hour childcare in a round-the-clock day care centre.
