Can students participate in youth workshops?

You can apply for a period of work experience at youth workshops if:

  • you are 16–28 years old

  • you are studying a vocational qualification in a vocational institute

  • you live in Vantaa or study at Varia

  • you want to make progress in your studies, but you need support to keep up with your studies

  • the workshop activities are compatible with your learning objectives

You can apply for a place in the workshop through your own vocational institute. Plan your objectives for the workshop period (max. 3 months) with the teacher responsible for your training. Your teacher will contact the youth advisors to conclude a training agreement.

During the workshop period, you can participate in workshop activities with other young people. The workshop offers you the opportunity to learn working life skills in a safe and supportive environment. You will also receive support and advice for life management from the instructors and other participants. The workshop activities take place on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You can apply for a work experience period at a kitchen, home renovation or crafts workshop. Learn more about the objectives and activities of these workshops with your teacher.

Learning content of youth workshops

Youth workshops have been identified as learning environments and the activities of the workshops have been made more educational in cooperation with vocational institutes. In practice, workshop participants will have the opportunity to acquire skills that match the professional requirements of their vocational qualifications.

The skills obtained by a young person during the workshop period are identified and recorded in a skills certificate, which may be useful to the young person in the future, for example, when applying for vocational studies or employment. During the workshop period, the skills obtained by the young person are identified as agreed.
