Värkkäämö is a workshop that offers customers the opportunity to use and try out various devices.
Welcome to Värkkäämö
Värkkäämö is a workshop that offers customers the opportunity to use and try out various devices. In Värkkäämö, everyone can bring their own ideas to life, learn new skills, and share knowledge. You can use the workshop and its devices free of charge, but a valid library card is required. Värkkäämö is intended for those over the age of 10, but younger individuals can also use the devices accompanied by an adult.
The workshop has a 3D printer, Cricut Explore 3 electronic cutter, sewing machine, two sergers/overlock sewing machines and an industrial sewing machine. Additionally, the space is equipped with warp beams and a winding device, an ironing board and iron, various sewing and crafting supplies, pattern paper, and a fitting mannequin.
How to use Värkkäämö :
A library card is required to reserve a device from the workshop. You can make reservations online through the Timmi 360 booking system or in person at the library. Please note that for the freely accessible tools such as the iron and mannequin, we cannot guarantee immediate availability. Make sure to reserve enough time for your project as the library staff must be able to turn off the devices at the end of the reservation or at the closing time of the workshop.
Please familiarize yourself with the user regulations in advance as you commit to following them while working in the workshop.
Please arrive at the agreed-upon time and check in at the library service desk. A library staff member will check out the reserved device to your library card and unlock the door to the workshop. If a customer is more than 15 minutes late from the start of the reservation, the reservation may be canceled, and the device made available to the next customer.
Equipment available for reservation at Värkkäämö :
3D Printer
In Värkkäämö, you have access to the Ultimaker S3 3D printer.
The 3D printer creates physical objects from digital model files. Non-toxic and biodegradable PLA plastic is used as the printing material.
The Ultimaker S3 printer can produce single-color prints, and the Breakaway support material enables the creation of more complex 3D prints.
To print, you need a 3D model file in STL format. Ready-made models can be found on sites like thingiverse.com. You can review printing settings and download the free Ultimaker Cura printing software to your computer for printing.

Electronic Cutter
With the Cricut Explore 3 electronic cutter, you can cut a variety of materials including paper, cardboard, vinyl stickers, and iron-on transfer sheets. You can use up to a 30x30cm piece of library's materials per week. We have a wide selection of vinyl and iron-on materials. For bigger projects customers need to provide the necessary materials for the device themselves. Check with the library staff to confirm if your material is suitable for cutting.
The electronic cutter cuts vector graphics. Using the workshop’s laptop with the Cricut Design Space program, you can convert images and text into vector graphics. A sample image requires a single-color or high-contrast JPEG image file, such as a logo or silhouette.
You can reserve the electronic cutter through the Timmi 360 booking system.
Sticker and vinyl materials can be purchased from stores such as:

The threads are pre-set in the library sergers as follows: serger 1; black threads and serger 2; white threads.

Industrial Sewing Machine
The Adler 167 is a single-needle, triple-feed industrial sewing machine. It can only sew straight stitches. An industrial sewing machine is more powerful than a regular sewing machine and can handle medium to heavy materials such as leather. The term "triple-feed" refers to the fact that the machine feeds the fabric forward using the lower feed dog, presser foot, and the needle.
Before using the machine, it's recommended to test its operation with a sample swatch.
You can reserve the industrial sewing machine through the Timmi 360 booking system.
