The light rail construction sites are expanding in December
The Vantaa light rail construction sites have impacted the lives of residents in Tikkurila’s center since the spring. In December, the construction of the light rail will begin to cover a significantly larger area.

In January, subgrade strengthening and its preparations will begin along Tikkurilantie between Päivänkakkarantie and Kielotie. Car traffic will be redirected from Tikkurilantie to alternate routes in stages during this time, and the buses will move to Peltolantie.
There will be a large change in the center of Tikkurila in February, when the bus terminal will move elsewhere. More information about this is provided in a separate article. On the Jokiniemi side, the routes for pedestrians and cyclists will change to some extent. A site road needed for the light rail tunnel’s construction traffic will be opened near the so-called Valmet house, from Jokiniemenkatu towards the railway track.
There are gas pipes along Kyytitie, which the construction workers will need to move out of the way of the light rail. In the next stage, there will be changes to the pedestrian and cycle routes along Kyytitie, as space will be cleared out for the construction site by moving various municipal infrastructure pipes away from the north side of Kyytitie. The construction site area will extend from the Heidehof traffic circle to Kaskela.
Starting in March, Kyytitie will be closed to car traffic between the Heidehof traffic circle and Kanervantie. Cars and buses will be redirected to Santaradantie and Kanervantie. Sammaltie will remain open to car traffic throughout.
In December, roadworks are already under way along Länsimäentie, near the bridge crossing Porvoonväylä. The construction site anticipates a large bridge construction project, as the bridge across Porvoonväylä on Länsimäentie is in disrepair and will be completely demolished. A new bridge will be built next to it before this.
