Vantaa schools are on winter holiday from 19 to 25 February. The city organises plenty of fun activities for those on holiday.

Events in libraries

 

The Lego workshops are back! We invite you to Martinlaakso Library for a three-day Lego building event. Join us for one or more days. The workshop has Lego building instructions to help you find inspiration. No advance registration is required.

Tuesday, 20 Feb. from 12 noon to 3 p.m.
Wednesday, 21 Feb. from 12 noon to 3 p.m.
Thursday, 22 Feb. from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

Lego WeDo combines building and programming in a fun way! Join the Robopaja workshop on Wednesday, 21 February, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Tikkurila Library to program Lego robots. The workshop is open to 10 participants (children and adults). Only adults have to register. You can also mention the child’s age when registering. The workshop is suitable for children aged 6 and above.

Try solving brain teasers at Myyrmäki Library’s game night. The game night is held on 19 February from 4 to 7 p.m. The event is open to all ages, no advance registration is needed.

The snowman's nose has fallen off! We invite all children to help us give the snowman his nose back at Hakunila Library on 19 February from 1 to 3 p.m. Tikkurila Library’s ukulele workshop is held on 20 February 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m. Join the library staff to play board games at Hakunila Library on 20 February from 2 to 3 p.m. Children can also practice reading aloud with the library’s Reading Dog at Tikkurila Library on 21 February 2024 from 4.30 to 5.30 p.m.

Come and make stickers at Hakunila Library on 21 February 2024 from 1.30 to 3 p.m. The library will provide the sticker supplies. Test your knowledge in the winter-themed Kahoot! quiz at Hakunila Library on 22 February from 2 to 3 p.m. Each participant will receive a small prize! 

Theatre, cinema and dance

 

Pippendorfin kirjavat kummitukset (the Colourful Ghosts of Pippendorf Manor) is based on a book of the same title by Mauri Kunnas. The new play (in Finnish) by Linnateatteri features trendy ghost fashion, ghost spotting and exciting detours with supernatural wonders. Pippendorfin kirjavat kummitukset at Lumo hall on Friday, 23 February 2024, at 6 p.m. The play is 40 minutes long and suitable for everyone over the age of three.

During the winter holiday week (20–21 February), you can see three popular animation films at Kulttuuritalo Martinus. This year, the winter holiday films will take you on a luxury cruise ship, a great adventure under the sea and to a coastal town in Italy.

Participate in art workshops at Artsi during the winter holiday. The workshops are organised on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 20–22 February, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Artsi’s foyer at Myyrmäkitalo. We will work with new tools each day. Participants will get to try printmaking and collaging. The workshops are suitable for children over four years old, accompanied by an adult. Free entry, no advance registration required.

At West Side Vernissa's art camps, fourth- and fifth-grade children can explore various art forms in small groups led by art instructors. The children will be introduced to animation, street art and theatre. The camp instructors include art professionals Tuomas Heimala (animation), Pia Iiramo (street art) and Ilja Mäkelä (theatre). The camp is open to up to 30 participants.

Vantaa City Museum is hosting a multicultural event for children on 24 February 2024, from 11 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. The event will feature a theatre workshop, drawing and music. Participants will also get to enjoy performances by the inspiring Veronika Istomina, Talent Suomi 2020 finalist and member of Music Ambassadors.

At the event, you can also meet Chiro, the bat mascot from Pyykkitupa, the children’s cultural centre. The event is recommended for children aged 6 to 10 and is free of charge, but a limited number of places are available.

Sports and outdoor activities

 

The Talvilomapeuhat event offers versatile and low-threshold winter holiday activities for children and their families on Wednesday, 22 February, at Energia Areena from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children get to be active at the event, play ball games and jump in a bouncy castle!

You can also challenge a friend or a library staff member to a table basketball game at Hakunila Library on 23 February 2024, from 1 to 3.30 p.m.
