Physical activity programme increases mobility in Vantaa

Article

Our everyday lives are more sedentary than before. Most Vantaa residents do not move enough for their health.

The physical activity of children and young people will be promoted, for example, by developing the offerings of family sports and hobby paths.

Physical activity is important because adequate movement can prevent the development of many national diseases and the challenges of ageing.

Vantaa residents’ physical activity is now being promoted through Vantaa’s first physical activity programme. The programme consists of a set of goals which the city uses to promote mobility for Vantaa residents of all ages in concrete ways.

The physical activity of children and young people will be promoted, for example, by developing the offerings of family sports and hobby paths as well as by increasing physical activity in early childhood education and schools.

The physical activity of working-age and elderly people will be supported, among other things, by providing clearer communication about existing services and by developing service paths, for example, from employment services to lifestyle counselling. The number of recreational activities for people over the age of 65 will be increased by providing more guided and peer-instructed physical activity.

The physical activity programme will be published later in English on the Vantaa website.
