Pre-primary education in English

The operations of English-speaking pre-primary education are designed in a way that combines the bilingual pre-primary education so that both languages remain present and improve gradually after the teacher's modelling and the children's active learning.

Introduction

The operations of English-speaking pre-primary education are designed in a way that combines the bilingual pre-primary education so that both languages remain present and improve gradually after the teacher's modelling and the children's active learning. The objective is to give the children the competence to continue their studies both in English and in Finnish.

Grounds for school admission

The school admission to English-speaking pre-primary education is implemented based on the following criteria, in the order presented:

  1. the child’s mother tongue is English.
  2. the child’s mother tongue is Finnish, but the child has experience of English language environment.
  3. the child’s mother tongue is something else, but the child has experience of English language environment.
  4. the child’s sibling is attending English-speaking early childhood education and care or English-speaking teaching.
  5. the child’s registration date in early childhood education and care after the official registering period determined by local authorities has ended.
  6. as a final solution in cases where applicants have equal grounds, the place in English-speaking pre-primary education is assigned with a draw.
