S2 education in comprehensive schools in Vantaa.
- A student can study the syllabus of Finnish as a second language and literature (S2) if the student’s mother tongue is not Finnish or if they come from a multi-lingual background. S2 is one of the syllabi of the subject ‘mother tongue and literature’. The student’s guardian will decide which syllabus is chosen.

When choosing the syllabus at school, the student’s proficiency in the different areas of Finnish language will first be considered: speaking, reading, listening comprehension, writing, structure and vocabulary. It will also be considered whether the student’s skills are sufficient for studying the syllabus of Finnish language and literature.
- Finnish as a second language teaching is offered in all local schools.
- The teaching will be given as seen best, either in a separate teaching group for Finnish as a second language or as differentiated teaching with the Finnish as a mother tongue class.
