Construction of the light rail in Tikkurila Center and Jokiniemi

Vantaa light rail construction site in Tikkurila
The Vantaa light rail will run smoothly in a tunnel beneath Tikkurila station, the public transport terminal, Ratatie and Kirjastopuisto. The stop located in the tunnel beneath Tikkurila station is expected to be the busiest on the entire light rail line in terms of passenger numbers. Preparatory works in Tikkurila already began in May 2025.

Information will be updated as construction progresses. The preliminary schedule may change, for example due to weather conditions. We will provide more detailed information on upcoming work phases closer to their start. The page also includes links to news items where you can read more about current developments in the area.
May 2026
- Ratakuja was taken into use for worksite operations in May. At the same time, the entrance to Rataparkki (Ratakuja 3) was relocated from Ratakuja to Ratatie. The temporary entrance is located directly along Ratatie, with access from the north. You can park in Rataparkki as normal throughout the construction period.
June 2026
- Construction is progressing in Kirjastopuisto. In June, a minor change will be made to the Tikkuparkki access ramp as it shifts slightly closer to the library. You can park in Tikkuparkki as normal throughout the construction period. During construction, access to Tikkuparkki is via Lummetie through the library parking area.
- The Vantaa light rail worksite has expanded at the intersection of Kielotie and Unikkotie. The carriageway has been narrowed, and traffic lights allow vehicles through one direction at a time. At the same time, access to Tikkurila Health Centre has been moved slightly east, away from the intersection area.
- From summer onwards, minor lane arrangements will be implemented on Jokiniemenkatu on both sides of the Keravanjoki bridge. Municipal engineering works are also being carried out in the area.
July 2026
- At the end of July, construction of a temporary traffic bridge will begin on Ratatie. The works will take approximately one month, and during this time buses will be diverted from Ratatie to alternative routes. Please check the latest public transport information via HSL’s channels.
August 2026
- Installation of the temporary traffic bridge will continue on Ratatie.
- Relocation of municipal engineering and excavation works will continue at several worksites in Tikkurila.
Autumn 2026
- Rock excavation works will begin on the Jokiniemi side of Tikkurila station.
