Welcome to be part of writing the history of Aviapolis upper secondary school!
Aviapolis upper secondary school is a new upper secondary school currently under construction in Vantaa. You can apply for Aviapolis already in the joint application in February 2026, and the operation of the new upper secondary school will begin in August 2026. Principal Mika Luukkonen welcomes students to join in creating the beginning of a new upper secondary school!
Principal Mika Luukkonen.
Construction work on Aviapolis upper secondary school is still ongoing, and preparations are well in progress behind the scenes. Principal Mika Luukkonen, originally from South Karelia, started in his new role in January and is now interviewing future teachers.
– We have been looking for teachers with a big heart and high professional competence. The future teachers at Aviapolis upper secondary school also have the courage to think in new ways and work through trial and error, says Mika.
Mika notes that it is exceptional for a new upper secondary school to be established in Finland.
– Students starting at Aviapolis have a unique opportunity to help build a new upper secondary school and be part of creating a new beginning. In a way, students are stepping into the role of pioneers.
In addition to this exciting new beginning, Mika lists other reasons to apply to Aviapolis:
– Our location will be absolutely fantastic, with excellent transport connections. After the school building is completed, we will have highly modern facilities at our disposal.
A school where high standards meet a gentle and supportive approach
Aviapolis upper secondary school will have 90 starting places available in its first autumn. When the new building is completed, it will provide space for approximately 700 students.
– We are starting on a fairly small scale. Students starting the first academic year this autumn will receive quite individual attention and support, especially in the early stages.
The upper secondary school will set high standards for its students, but with a gentle approach.
– Although we talk about high standards, this does not mean exhausting pressure, but rather a positive attitude towards learning. There is no need to fear making mistakes, as we study in a safe environment. We believe in gentle firmness, Mika explains.
Aviapolis upper secondary school offers the opportunity to study in English
Aviapolis upper secondary school has 30 starting places available each year for for the English language line. Upper secondary school education in English corresponds to the national upper secondary school education in Finland. Upper secondary school education in English is limited to those persons whose Finnish or Swedish language skills are insufficient for upper secondary school studies in Finnish or Swedish and who have completed comprehensive school studies in Finland for a maximum of three years.
– The launch of the English language line is historically unique as well. Next autumn, six upper secondary schools across Finland are launching English language lines. Once Aviapolis reaches full capacity, English-language students will account for approximately 15% of all students. This will add a nice international twist to our school. I find it great that we can integrate students into Finnish society through education, says Mika.
The first day of school is on August 12 at Aerolankaari 5
The new Aviapolis upper secondary school will begin operating in August 2026 in temporary premises at Varia Aviapolis, Aerolankaari 5. The upper secondary school building will be completed in early 2027, after which teaching will move to the new premises at Karhumäenportti 3.

The joint application process begins on February 17, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. and ends on March 17, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. The first matriculants of Aviapolis upper secondary school will graduate in the spring of 2029.
